Parks & Recreation

Welcome to a new season and a new world  where the great outdoors, more than ever, can also be great medicine. As we continue to feel the impacts of COVID-19, and as we make this venture together, our staff works hard to keep you safe and engaged. There’s so much life in our outdoor community and we encourage you to continue to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle by visiting our parks and trails as well as others in the area. If you feel “safer at home,” check out our Virtual Programming page and Fall Brochure page where you’ll find fun activities for all ages to do at home, in your yard, or in our parks. The James City County Recreation Center and the Abram Frink Jr. Community Center have resumed normal operating hours; please see the social distancing guidelines available online

All County parks are open; however, please check amenity openings and closings before heading out.

Shaping Our Shores
Master Plan Update Approved

The Shaping Our Shores (SOS) Master Plan was adopted and implemented in 2009 to guide the revitalization of three of James City County’s waterfront park facilities–Chickahominy Riverfront Park, Jamestown Beach Event Park and the James City County Marina. During the 2019 update process, the plan was presented to the James City County Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee in January, to the Planning Commission in March, and to the Board of Supervisors in July, where it received unanimous approval by all three entities. To review the approved improvement maps and for more details, please visit Shaping Our Shores.
