James City County Parks & Recreation has it all! Full day to half day options all summer long. Camps begin on the day listed and are grouped by age. Registration information appears at the end of the camp listing.


Week of August 6

Little Tykes Summer Camp (ages 3-5;
must be potty-trained)
Monday-Thursday through Aug. 16*, 1:30-4:30 p.m.  
$65/week; $60 for JC/W residents

Kidz-R-Cookin’ Around the World (ages 5-8)
Monday-Thursday, Aug. 7-10, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
$130; $125 for JC/W residents

Cooking, music and arts and crafts from around the globe will all come together in this very special hands-on cooking camp. Each day will have a different culinary adventure for participants. REC Connect Summer Camp is for ages 5-14 (must have completed kindergarten). Registrations accepted on a space available basis. Our licensed camps run Monday-Friday through Aug. 24, 7 a.m.-6 p.m. at five elementary schools - Clara Byrd Baker, J. B. Blayton, Matthew Whaley, Matoaka and Norge and one middle school Lois S. Hornsby. Weekly Fees: Full-time (4 or 5 days) – $110/week; $105 for JC/W residents and includes field trip fees. $10 discount available for second and subsequent children in the same family attending full-time. Part-time (3 days or less) – $90/week; $85 for JC/W residents and includes field trip fees. Registration forms and program information are available for download at jamescitycountyva.gov/recreation under “Recreation and Programs” or pick up at the James City County Recreation Center, the Freedom Park Interpretive Center or Satellite Services in Toano. 4-H Jaws, Claws, Talons and Paws (ages 9-12)

Learn about the many different species of wildlife and their adaptations for survival! Come explore land, water and sky to discover predator and prey relationships, habitat diversity and survival. In this hands-on camp, campers will collect, identify and study fascinating marine creatures up close and personal. Dissect owl pellets, search for aquatic animals, build bird’s nests and discover how amazing our furred and feathered friends can be. Includes a field trip to Virginia Wildlife Museum. 806300-I

Mermaid Camp (ages 10-15)
Monday-Friday, Aug. 6-10, 1-4:30 p.m.
$80; $75 for JC/W residents
Chickahominy Riverfront Park
Explore your inner mermaid in a fun, creative environment! Activities include underwater performance and basic synchronized swimming skills in the pool, mermaid themed
crafts, mermaid makeovers and more. Some activities will take place in deep water; participants must be able to swim 25 yards and tread water for one minute with no assistance. Info: 757-259-4185. 108740-A

Freedom Park
The settlers at Hot Water, now the home of Freedom Park, didn’t have video games, computers or any of the high tech gadgets of today! So how did they get by? Camp participants will get a feel of 18th and 19th century life in Virginia – making their own food and supplies, and learning about the rich history of Freedom Park. Advanced Cake Decorating Camp (ages 9-14)
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday, Aug. 20-24 (no camp Aug. 22), 1-4 p.m.

Take your cake decorating skills to the next level! Using buttercream icing, fondant and gum paste, we’ll learn to make daisies, mums, rosebuds and a 3D bow!
