James City County is pleased to announce that the Williamsburg Winery is building a two-level veranda and terrace overlooking the vineyards. This new veranda and terrace will be open to the public later this fall. The purpose of this new facility is to offer visitors space where they can enjoy wine in a comfortable, relaxed outdoor setting with views of the vineyard and winemaking “crush pad.”The two-level covered veranda will be approximately 2,600 square feet with a 1,100 square foot uncovered landscaped terrace. The veranda will be open-air on three sides.“The way wine enthusiasts experience wineries today is different than it was even just five to seven years ago,” said Williamsburg Winery CEO Patrick Duffeler II in a release. “There are a growing number of visitors that simply want to relax and enjoy wine with friends, even if they don't do a tour or tasting.”The Williamsburg Winery is over 40 acres of vineyards, an on-site garden, a hotel and two restaurants, Café Provencal and the Gabriel Archer Tavern all set on Wessex Hundred, a 300-acre farm. The Williamsburg Winery opened in 1988 and is open year round. There are numerous sites on the property for group tastings, weddings and private events. Additionally, the Williamsburg Winery hosts a variety of special events throughout the year that are open to the public. For more information about the Williamsburg Winery, please visit their website or Facebook page.
