The word “girlfriend” has a couple of meanings in the English language. No matter the definition, the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) seeks your help in protecting them.
Every August 1, the CDC observes this day by inviting you to “celebrate female friendship and support by helping them stay safe and live well.” This mandate includes preventing intimate partner violence crimes against women. According to the 2016 Office on Women’s Health, “Over 1 in 5 women (22%) have experienced severe physical violence by an intimate partner at some point in their lifetime.” This month, show how much you care by bringing attention and spreading awareness about IPV (intimate partner violence) crimes.
