James City County Board of Supervisors Chairman Michael Hipple presented his 2016 Chairman's Awards during the Dec. 13 Board of Supervisors meeting to Eric Stone and Greg Walker. The award recipients were honored for their contributions and service to James City County and the community.
Eric Stone has a long history of giving back to the Williamsburg community. Stone is the principal organizer of the County’s All-Star Football Camp, which is offered for free to boys interested in learning skills from former professional and college football players. He also coordinated the 2016 James City County Day of Caring Project at the Grove Community Center. Stone recruited Riverside Hospital, Michael J. Hipple Builders, Nelson Heating and Air and community volunteers to provide a new HVAC system, power wash and paint and install basketball hoops for the youth of the Grove community. Stone recently retired from the Williamsburg Fire Department after 36 years of service. Due to a previous commitment, Stone was unable to attend the meeting.
Greg Walker, a Family Services Assistant, has worked for James City County for 31 years. Walker is instrumental in providing independent living services to older youth in foster care, including organizing a summer leadership workshop, providing health education, attending a statewide youth conference and providing driving lessons. He works closely with community agencies providing support and guidance to fathers wanting to improve their parenting skills and stay connected to their children. Walker exemplifies the County values of Collaboration and Customer Service by assisting with a flexible and positive attitude and consistently delivering quality services with respect, patience and dignity.
