James City County Police Department received two awards for traffic safety from the Department of Motor Vehicles Highway Safety Office for their traffic safety efforts during the 2015 Click It or Ticket Campaign in May 2015. Click It or Ticket is an enforcement and media campaign conducted in Virginia in May and November every year to promote seat belt usage and proper use of child safety restraints.

The first award is the Highest Use Award. The seatbelt usage rate in James City County is 95% which is 14.1% higher than Virginia’s average use rate. Based on pre- and post-survey results, the usage rate in James City County increased by 12%, which resulted in the Most Improved Award, as well.

Sgt. Chris Belote and Master Officer Leslie Sten, both of the Department’s Traffic Unit, were recognized for their efforts towards traffic safety on Dec. 9. The goal of Traffic Unit is to contribute to the department's mission of promoting safe and efficient movement of vehicles and pedestrians in James City County.
