[ARCHIVED] Use of video increases as annual report released

Strategic properties slide from Annual Report

For the first time, James City County has released its annual report as a video instead of a printed publication. The 10-minute video gives an overview of County highlights and accomplishments in FY 2015, July 2014-June 2015, by using photos, video clips, graphics, narration and music. The video can be viewed on JCC TV and the County’s YouTube channel at YouTube.com/jamescitycounty.

Featuring members of the Board of Supervisors, citizen participation and financial highlights throughout the year, the video was produced in-house by the County Communications division. “This video not only has a longer shelf-life than print but also is a more effective way to tell our story,” says County Administrator Bryan Hill. “It’s just another example of how staff is looking at new ways to serve our citizens in a creative way with reduced costs as well providing a quality service to our citizens.”

As the use of video continues to rise with the use of mobile devices, cable and Internet, the County plans to explore more opportunities to increase citizen information using that media. Most recently, the County released a promotional video that highlights the many outdoor activities that can be enjoyed here. To keep County residents up to date on the workings of their locally elected representatives, County Administrator Hill provides a meeting video recap after every Board of Supervisors meeting.
