Nov. 3 is Sandwich Day

Whether you want a classic turkey sandwich or something a little more elevated, there are plenty of places to stop and get a great sandwich in James City County. We are going to focus on locally owned places.

Capriccio Ristorante in New Town has Italian hoagies on their menu including chicken parmesan, eggplant parmesan and meatball parmesan.

Center Street Grill in New Town has numerous sandwiches, but their most noteworthy might be the grilled Portabella mushroom topped with caramelized onions, sautéed spinach and Feta cheese with a sun dried tomato aioli.

The Cork Café is located inside of the Wine Seller but has a ton of unique sandwiches including an authentic New York Reuben! The Cork Café also offers a “build your own sandwich” with numerous combination possibilities.

Corner Café has several sandwich options including a Monte Cristo. If you’ve never had a Monte Cristo, it is typically ham and turkey with Swiss cheese, but it is fried together with a sweet accompaniment. The Monte Cristo at the Corner Café is smoked ham & turkey with Swiss cheese & Chambord mayonnaise wrapped in French pastry flash fried then dusted with powdered sugar.

The Corner Pocket in New Town has a varied menu, but the sandwich options they offer are classic favorites including chicken salad, French dips and even a meatloaf sandwich.

Craft 31 has a dill fried chicken breast sandwich, a crab cake sandwich and brisket on their menu.

Emily’s Donuts & Café offers a full lunch menu that includes different sandwich options all on freshly baked bread. The BBLT sounds great –the BB is for double bacon.

The Gabriel Archer Tavern at the Williamsburg Winery has several sandwiches on their menu including a turkey and brie that sounds amazing: House-roasted turkey, brie, granny smith apple, lingonberry preserves, roasted garlic mayo, French baguette.

Five Forks Café offers a turkey Reuben on their sandwich menu.

Guiseppe’s lunch menu offers a Mediterranean vegetable medley sandwich that features Ciabatta bread with artichoke hearts, kalamata olives, mushrooms, and tomatoes marinated in a lemon vinaigrette with feta and melted provolone cheese.

Oceans & Ale by the Williamsburg Premium Outlets serves up a fried fish sandwich and they also have a crab cake sandwich and ahi tuna stack on their menu.

Two Drummers Smokehouse has every kind of smokehouse sandwich you could want on their menu. They offer three different kinds of barbeque sandwiches (pork, chicken or brisket), smoked beef brisket French dips, grilled pimento cheese with bacon, a smokehouse Cuban sandwich and even house made smoked sausage sandwiches.
