[ARCHIVED] House Fire in Kingswood

A generator being used during the Hurricane Matthew power outage caught fire which spread to a home on Oxford Road in Kingswood. James City County Fire units were called by neighbors who saw the flames at 12:45 p.m. October 9, 2016. The residents were not at home at the time, and their dog was rescued by neighbors shortly before the arrival of fire units. Fire personnel arrived to find the generator and rear exterior of the home on fire, which they quickly contained. Damage was contained primarily to the garage with some smoke damage to the main home, estimated loss to be approximately $15,000. Fire marshal’s determined the cause of the fire to be accidental.
