Johnnie Mathew Chapman of James City County was arrested on Sept. 27 by James City County Police in connection with the Sept. 25 shooting at the Elk’s Lodge at 105 Howard Drive. Chapman is charged with 2 counts of aggravated malicious wounding, malicious wounding, 3 counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

On Sept. 25 at approximately 12:29 a.m., officers responded to the Elk’s Lodge at 105 Howard Drive for a disturbance and reports of shots fired. Two adult male victims were struck by gunfire and were transported by medics to Riverside Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The suspect fled the scene prior to officers' arrival.

The investigation would reveal 34 year old Johnnie Mathew Chapman as the suspect. The investigation would further reveal a third male victim who was grazed by a bullet. It is believed that this was not a random shooting and that Chapman targeted the three victims.

Chapman turned himself in at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail (VPRJ) where he is being held without bond.
