There are plenty of reasons registered voters may not be able to make it to the polls on Election Day. If you meet one of 19 requirements, you may be able to vote absentee. Examples include:
- Student attending college away from home
- Mobility or health issues
- Vacation
- Business trip
- First responder
In-person absentee voting is available at the Voter Registration & Elections office, 101 Mounts Bay Road, Building E, Williamsburg, VA 23185.
- 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday, Sept. 23-Nov. 4
- 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 29
- 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 5
The last day for in-person absentee voting is Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016.
Need to vote absentee, but you can’t make it to the Voter Registrar’s office? Vote absentee by mail. Voters can request an absentee ballot online using the Department’s secure online Citizen Portal at vote.virginia.gov.

Eligible Virginians may register to vote online at vote.virginia.gov or by submitting a completed voter registration form to their local general registrar’s office. The last day to register to vote for the Presidential Election is Oct. 17, 2016. Registrations must be received or postmarked by this date.
Virginia law requires voters to present an acceptable photo ID when voting in-person.
