James City County is pleased to announce that a holiday ornament contest is being held to represent the County in the decorating of the 2016 Holiday Tree at the Executive Mansion in Richmond, VA. The theme of the holiday tree is “Home for the Holidays.” Each of Virginia’s 95 counties, 38 cities and 191 towns will be represented in the mansion’s ballroom, which is open to visitors throughout the holiday season.
Each locality is asked to submit one locally hand-crafted ornament that uniquely represents their community. James City County is accepting ornament submissions through Oct. 7. Ornaments must be a depiction of a feature unique to the County. Ornaments must be made by adults aged 18 years and older. Individuals are welcome to submit multiple ornaments, but each ornament must follow the specific contest rules and guidelines.
Contest entries must be submitted online. All entries must follow the submission guidelines and both amateur and professional submissions will be accepted. Ornaments must be original and not copyrighted. The winning James City County themed ornament will become property of the Virginia Association of Counties. All entries must be submitted by Oct. 7.

Ornaments will be narrowed to a pool of finalists and public voting will take place Oct. 14-21. The winning ornament will be announced on Oct. 24.
This contest is sponsored by James City County in conjunction with the Virginia Association of Counties for the Executive Mansion 2016 Holiday Tree. There is no financial compensation for ornament construction. Winner agrees to turn over ornament to the County no later than Oct. 26, 2016.
