[ARCHIVED] James City County Police to offer women’s self defense course

The JCC Police Department and JCC Parks and Recreation have partnered to offer a R.A.D. Women’s Self Defense and Empowerment Course. In this hands-on course students will learn how to increase their situational awareness, develop prevention strategies and learn physical defense techniques and how to develop a defensive mind set.

The course is free and open to females age 13 and above. The course is 12 hours long broken down into six sessions, and participants should plan to attend each session. All courses will be held at the James City County Recreation Center, 5301 Longhill Road. The courses will meet from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Sept. 20, 22, 27 and 29 and from 9-11 a.m. on Sept. 24 and Oct. 1.

Pre-registration is required and can be completed through JCC Parks and Recreation’s online registration system using Activity #308210-A or by calling 757-259-4200 (between 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Friday and between 1-5 p.m. on weekends).
