The James City County Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission has received a proposal from several veterans organizations in the County to (1) change the name of Mid County Park to Veterans Memorial Park, and/or (2) to designate an area within the Park as a veteran’s memorial garden. The Commission seeks citizen input before making a recommendation to the James City County Board of Supervisors. Comments and recommendations on these two questions should be submitted in writing to the “Director of Parks and Recreation,” James City County Parks and Recreation, 5300 Palmer Lane, Suite 1A, Williamsburg, VA 23188; by email; or by fax to 757-259-5420. Please also include the city, county or town where you officially reside. For your convenience, you can also complete the survey online, accessible from the Parks and Recreation homepage at jamescitycountyva.gov/recreation. The deadline to submit correspondence or participate in the survey is Oct. 19, 2016. Mid County Park is located at 3793 Ironbound Road. The 19-acre park is home to Kidsburg and also features an ADA-accessible multiuse trail, volleyball courts, lighted basketball and tennis/pickleball and open space. A Vietnam memorial statue and lighted flag pole, donated by David Hooker, was added to the park in May 1993 to honor local residents who gave their lives in the Vietnam War.
