While Williamsburg Distillery has not yet celebrated its first anniversary, it is experiencing the success of a long-established business. Their first edition of ‘Genever’ Gin recently won triple gold in the 2016 Micro Liquor Distiller’s Competition.
The craft micro-distillery produces rum and gin using 18th century recipes, ingredients and methods. The Distillery is located at 7218 Merrimac Trail in James City County and is open Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 1-8 p.m. Patrons can purchase samples and mix and match any combination of the signature modern and colonial-style cocktails. Among the best sellers are “Cream and Shot”- vanilla ice cream with Rum- and “Grog”- a colonial cocktail with citrus and brown sugar.
The Distillery consistently scores well in international spirits competitions. Their Yorktown Rum won a bronze medal at the American Distilling Institute in San Francisco and a silver medal at the Denver International Spirits Competition. The third edition Rum won a gold medal at the Los Angeles International Spirits Competition, beating out competition such as Bacardi’s Ocho Anos.
Williamsburg Distillery’s spirits are available in local ABC Stores and restaurants, including The Whaling Company, The Hound’s Tale, Yorktown Pub, Triangle, Craft 31, Second St. American Bistro and Hair of The Dog.
