James City County and City of Williamsburg Fire units were dispatched to a structure fire in the 300 block of Archers Mead in Kingsmill at 2:58 a.m. Units arrived at 3:05 a.m. to find smoke showing from the eaves of the two-story townhouse building.

The fire was brought under control at 4:23 a.m. Neighbors smelled smoke and alerted the occupant of the townhouse who evacuated prior to the arrival of the Fire Department. Adjacent units were not damaged during the fire and occupants have returned to their residences.

Fire units remained on scene for several hours removing debris and checking for additional fire damage. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. The cause of the fire was determined to be discarded smoking materials.
