On July 7 at 7:15 p.m, Edwin Alexander Tejada Delgado of JCC, who is originally from El Salvador was reportedly swimming with some friends in the College Creek located off the Colonial Parkway in James City County. He was swimming about 20 feet off shore when witnesses reported seeing him in trouble and go under water. This area is a popular swimming spot but is posted with signs warning of the danger of a strong rip tide, deep water and that it is unsafe for swimming or wading.
Both the James City County Police and Fire Departments along with officers from the National Park Service responded to the scene. The victim’s body was recovered by divers from the JCCFD Dive Team at 8:20 p.m. approximately 65 feet from the area where he was last seen.
