Little Tykes Valentine’s Night Out! • Ages 3-5

Valentine’s Day Mosaic Heart • Ages 5-12 NEW!

Looking for a new Valentine's Day tradition? Why not feel the love as you create amazing art together with your child! We’ll design our own glittery heart mosaics using clay, beads and more. These mosaics are great to keep, or they're the perfect Valentine's Day gift for a friend or loved one. Get ready for some messy fun, as each parent and child create their own craft. Please pack a nut free snack and drink for your child. Instructor: Kidcreate Studio. 
 
Black History Month Day Camp: Celebrate Black Artists • Ages 5-12 NEW!
Monday, Feb. 19 (Presidents' Day), 9 a.m.-3 p.m. $75 
James City County Recreation Center
Come celebrate excellence! Create artwork inspired by some amazing artists. Paint, cut and collage your way from the Harlem Renaissance to the present day. Create your very own self-portrait in the style of famed contemporary portraitist Amy Sherald. Class is perfect for any student wanting to explore new techniques and create masterpieces of their own. Please pack a nut-free lunch, snack and drink. Instructor: Kidcreate Studio.

Family Zumba: Feel the Love (American Heart Month) • Ages 5+ FREE!

Are you looking for something fun and healthy to do with your family? Family Zumba gives you and your family a chance to be active together. One Friday each month will be a different theme. Exciting music with easy-to-follow movements makes a perfect fitness class while having fun! 

Family BAM! - Feel the Love (American Heart Month) • Ages 5+ FREE!

Take a Friday night out this winter and try something new with your crew! Drum fitness is a fun and active class for people of all ages and abilities. Drum away stress while increasing your fitness and listening to amazing music. You’ll leave this class feeling like a rockstar! 

Kids Bounce • Ages 8-13
Saturday, Feb. 17, 10-10:45 a.m. $5

This mini trampoline class is a unique experience for kids to burn energy and enjoy their own fitness class. There is something magical about bouncing on a trampoline that kids find incredibly engaging. They’ll enjoy 45 minutes of exciting bounce fitness to fun music.  

Indoor Cycle 101 • Ages 14+ FREE!
Saturday, Feb. 10, 10:30-11:15 a.m.

Indoor cycling classes can be overwhelming to jump into – music, seat settings, resistance level and to clip or not to clip. We’re here to help! Proper bike set-up can make or break your class experience and keep you injury-free. During this intro class, we’ll teach you all you need to enter the “spin” world. Put things in full gear with our awesome tunes, control over resistance and speed, and overall intensity. No bike experience needed. 

Yoga for Arthritis and Joint Health • Ages 14+ 
Saturday, Feb. 24, 1-3 p.m. $8

During this 1.5-hour workshop, we’ll work all the major joints gently and systematically through a full and natural range of motion to enhance joint mobility and reduce pain and stiffness. You’ll go home with practices to add to your everyday life! 

Frame Drumming Workshop • Ages 15+ 
Saturday, Feb. 17, 3-5 p.m. $5 
James City County Recreation Center 
This two-hour lesson is jam-packed with information, instruction, technique refinement, and lots of skill-building! It’s perfect for beginners as well as recreational drummers with an interest in deepening their drumming practice. We use frame drums, but many of the lessons can be applied and transferred to other types of drums and percussion instruments. Drums provided, but if you have a frame drum, please bring it! 

Drumming for Wellness

Wednesday, Feb. 21, 6-7 p.m. 
James City County Recreation Center 
Everyone can drum! Immerse yourself in the rhythmic world of drumming and discover the transformative power of sound and movement. Join us in the drum circle for social interaction, fun, self-expression, stress reduction, community building and an opportunity to develop rhythmicity and improvisational skills! No musical experience needed. Instruments provided, but bring a drum if you have one.  

Thriving Together: Mindful Motion-Tai Chi for Cancer Resilience • Ages 16+ FREE!

This monthly program series is designed to support individuals impacted by cancer in their journey to fitness and wellness. Whether you’re a survivor or currently undergoing treatment, we welcome you to a safe and inclusive space where you can come together and exercise. Discover the benefits of physical activity, connect with a compassionate community, and find strength and inspiration as we thrive together.

A variety of art activities are offered based on age, ability levels and interests. Children are assigned a volunteer “buddy” to work with them one-on-one. Monday, Feb. 26, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. $20
Depart the James City County Recreation Center 
We’ll visit the Virginia Museum of History & Culture in Richmond! Join us each month for trips to new places while making new friends and learning a new skill or two. Each trip also includes a visit to a local park for lunch and exploration; bring lunch and a water bottle. Participants must complete an Inclusion Profile and assessment before each trip. Participants must be able to walk up to two miles independently or with the use of a mobility device, have the ability to effectively communicate needs either verbally or with a communication device, and independently feed, bathe and toilet themselves. For information and to complete an assessment, please call 757-259-5354. Register by noon one week before each trip date.

The Lounge
 
Black History & Cultural Center of Virginia

Depart the James City County Recreation Center
Registration closes Feb 15, unless maximum registration is reached in advance 
We’ll travel to Richmond to visit this historical museum celebrating Richmond’s black history as well as the Maggie Walker National Historical site, the Bill “Bojangles” Robinson statue and the Hippodrome Theater. Catered lunch included. Spots available: 27. Trips are designed for independent individuals. Staff and volunteers are not considered caregivers or aides. Info: 757-259-4178. 

Holiday Closures
All County parks are open year-round. Some parks feature a guest services office or park store. The park offices/stores at Chickahominy Riverfront Park, Little Creek Reservoir Park, James City County Marina & Freedom Park will be closed on Monday, Feb. 19 in observance of Presidents' Day, 
 
The James City County Recreation Center and the Abram Frink Jr. Community Center are open on Feb. 19.
