In addition, James City County's Department of Social Services is now accepting cooling assistance applications. The program provides purchase or repair of cooling equipment and/or payment for electricity to operate cooling equipment. To be eligible, a household must contain at least one vulnerable individual who is age 60 or over, disabled or under age 6. Assistance is based on the availability of funds and the deadline to apply is Aug. 17. Residents can apply thru commonhelp.virginia.gov or complete a paper application at James City County Department of Social Services, 5249 Olde Towne Road, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information, call 757-259-3100.
