Arts & Special Interest 

Sing-Along Art Class • Ages 18 months-6 years 
Saturdays, Aug. 5-Sept. 16  (no class Sept. 2), 9:30-10:30 a.m.  $70
James City County Recreation Center
Combine your child’s love of art and music in this fun filled class! Children can create art inspired by favorite songs such as "I’m a Little TeaPot," "Itsy Bitsy Spider'' and more. Use glow-in-the-dark paint to make little stars twinkle, get those "Wheels on the Bus'' rolling with paint, and make bright, sunny art as we sing "You Are My Sunshine." Children must be accompanied by a caregiver. Instructor: KidCreate Studio.

The Elusive Orb • Ages 18+
Saturday, Aug. 19, 1-5 p.m. & Sunday, Aug. 20, 2-5 p.m.  $60 (total for both days) 
James City County Recreation Center
Making spherical forms on the wheel requires thoughtful technical consideration from start to finish. Learn to throw this lovely form while enhancing general throwing skills. Ability to center and throw at least 3-pounds of clay on the potter’s wheel required. $20 materials fee (cash or check) due to instructor at first class. Instructor: Marshall Turner.

If you’re looking for something fun and healthy to do with your family, this is it! Family Zumba gives you and your family a chance to be active together. One Friday each month will be a different theme. Exciting music with easy-to-follow movements makes a perfect fitness class while having fun!

Do you struggle with providing a healthy variety of foods in your child’s lunch? Learn new nourishing breakfast, snack and lunchbox ideas while keeping the essential nutrients needed to be healthy. Walk with a Doc • Ages 14+ FREE!

Greensprings Interpretive Trail 
Take a STEP toward better HEATLH! Join a doctor or health professional for a fun and safe place to go for a walk, learn about health, and meet new friends. Thirty-minutes of walking a day can increase your energy, help you sleep better, increase productivity, and make you feel happier within just 10 minutes. Let’s increase our physical activity together! One Saturday of every month a doc will take a few minutes to cover a health topic, then spend the rest of the hour enjoying a healthy walk at your own pace. Questions? Call 757-259-4176.

Tai Chi for Beginners • Ages 14+ FREE!

Get introduced to the basic elements of Tai Chi. We’ll cover joint loosening exercises, breathing techniques and other fundamental exercises. The practice of Tai Chi involves various postures, weight shifting and energy patterns, with an emphasis on balance, centering and brain health. 

Full Moon Yoga Nidra with Sound Bath: Blue Moon • Ages 14+ FREE!

This meditative practice incorporates sound with modalities such as vocal toning, singing bowls, drums and meditation. This unique, yet entertaining workshop teaches the different ways to incorporate sound into your practice. Come try something new!

Techniques of Meditation • Ages 16+ FREE!

Whether you’re a seasoned practitioner or brand new, all are welcomed to this open community meditation practice. We’ll explore different styles of meditation techniques as well as tools that aid the meditative process. You’ll be guided in and out of each session. 

 Drumming for Wellness • Ages 16+ FREE!
Wednesday, Aug. 23, 6-7 p.m.  
Freedom Park 
We’ll use the drum and the voice as a modality to practice mindfulness. Learn basic drumming and meditation techniques and participate in drum circles and sound immersions to experience the use of drums and sound in ritual, ceremony and recreation. No musical experience needed. All instruments provided.

Want to spend a fun day with your child fishing from the shores of Little Creek Reservoir Park? Let the park staff teach you and your child the fundamentals of this favorite pastime. All equipment provided.
 
Freedom Park Full Moon Hikes • All Ages FREE!
Sturgeon Moon:

Freedom Park
Come explore us AFTER DARK during the full moon! Freedom Park closes at sunset; however, Multiuse Trail 3 only reopens for this self-guided hike on select nights. After sunset, visitors may use Multiuse Trail 3 only, all other areas of the park are closed. The full moon hikes use an out-and-back one-mile, paved ADA-compliant trail winding through wooded forest and the Colby Swamp. Users must depart Multiuse Trail 3 by the closing time. No registration required. Weather permitting. 

Campfire Social • All Ages FREE!

Come celebrate spring weather with a good old-fashioned campfire gathering at Chickahominy Riverfront Park! Enjoy s’mores, activities, storytelling and more around the campfire overlooking Gordon Creek. 

Forest Explorers Friday: Butterflies • All Ages & Families FREE!

Join us as we explore the Williamsburg Botanical Garden for the different species of butterfly that call Freedom Park home. Come touch and look at different species of caterpillars and learn about the four stages of life. 

Splash on Friday • All Ages FREE!

Chickahominy Riverfront Park 
Come enjoy family time with us in the pool! Free swim area and an area for our Wibit inflatable obstacle course are available! Games and prizes included. Non-swimmers are required to use a lifejacket, which are provided. Registration required.
