[ARCHIVED] Decedent Positively Identified by Police in Retention Pond Case

JCCPD is releasing news

Feb. 6 update: On Feb. 3, the decedent was positively identified by Police as Jad T. Blair, a 21-year-old James City County resident. We would like to thank those who submitted tips and shared the news. The investigation is still underway; foul play is not suspected at this time.


Feb. 2 update: The JCCPD is seeking the public’s aid in identifying the decedent discovered in a retention pond on Jan. 25. The investigation indicates that the decedent was in the retention pond for two weeks or longer. The investigation is still ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to come forward.

The decedent is a 5’9” Black male, likely aged 16-26 years old, weighing between 160-185lbs with black hair and brown eyes. No other abnormalities or identifying elements could be determined. 

Upon discovery, the decedent wore a medium black shirt with a “Berret’s Taphouse Grill” logo, a black Nike hooded sweatshirt, and a necklace (pictured).

Jan. 25 News Flash: At approximately 9:45 a.m. on Jan. 25, the body of a Black male was found in a retention pond in the 5000 block of Olive Drive in a New Town residential area.

A pedestrian was walking along the roadway when the body was spotted. 

James City County Police and Fire responded to the scene and recovered the body. The body has been taken to the Medical Examiners’ Office in Norfolk. This is an ongoing suspicious death investigation, and the victim has yet to be identified.
