JCCPD Police Car

On Oct. 14, 2022, at approximately 1:14 p.m., James City County Police and Fire Department Personnel responded to the 8700 block of Barhamsville Road and the intersection of Old Stage Road in reference to a report of a two-vehicle traffic crash. Upon arrival and confirmed after the initial investigation of the incident, police determined that a 2017 Honda Fit had been traveling on Old Stage Road when it came to a stop at the intersection of Barhamsville Road. The 2017 Honda Fit proceeded into the intersection and was subsequently struck by a 2012 Ford Focus that was traveling east bound on Barhamsville Road toward Anderson’s Corner.

The driver of the 2017 Honda Fit was identified as 74-year-old Christine Paxton of New Kent County. Paxton was transported from the scene to a local medical facility for treatment. Paxton succumbed to her injuries on Oct. 15, 2022, at 12:34 a.m.

The driver of 2012 Ford Focus and their passenger suffered injures of various degrees and were also transported to a local medical facility for treatment.

Preliminary information suggests that neither speed, alcohol nor drugs were contributory factors to this crash. The east bound lanes of Barhamsville Road were shut down for approximately one hour because of the incident. The crash is still under investigation at this time.
