[ARCHIVED] Learn More About Recycling with the New Materials Sorting Game

ready set sort web

James City County is excited to launch the new Materials Sorting Game. This fun and interactive activity helps residents learn the proper way to dispose of unwanted items. The custom background of the game is even designed to look like James City County - roller coaster, historic ship and kayak included!

The object of the game is to sort items into the correct material stream. There are over 100 items in the game, so each time you play, you will learn something new!

  • Donation Center
  • Trash
  • VPPSA Household Chemical Collection Event
  • Recycling
  • Bulk Trash Pickup
  • Convenience Center Disposal
  • Glass-only Recycling

After each level you get to add a reward to your park such as a snowman, bounce house, pirate ship and more! After completing all five levels of six items each, you will earn a Certificate of Achievement. Get the family together and play the game here.

Some items may have more than one correct answer. For example, furniture can be Bulk Trash Pickup, Donation Center or Convenience Center Disposal.

While there are only seven options for the game, there are other options in our community. You can:

  • Take plastic bags to the grocery store
  • Compost your organic waste
  • Bring unused medications to pharmacies
