Carving & Decorating on Greenware • Ages 16+
Saturday, Aug. 13, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Sunday, Aug. 14, 1-5 p.m. 
$60 (both sessions)

Have you always wanted to create more visual and sensory interest on your pots? In this two-day workshop, we’ll focus on adding decoration through carving & mark-making on greenware. Students will be provided a few extra carving tools and one leather hard cylinder to follow along with the Saturday demonstration. Please bring your throwing and carving tools along with a sketchbook. Bring lunch on Saturday. Materials Fee: $20, by cash or check, due at beginning of workshop. Instructor: Katherine Maloney.

Gait Analysis • Ages 10+ FREE!

What could be more essential than walking and running? Local sports chiropractor Dr. Daniel Shaye of Performance Chiropractic will be performing FREE gait analysis. You may learn why your knee hurts, or your back, or your hip – you may even catch injuries before they happen! Please wear shorts and a tank type shirt for the best analysis. Have you ever wanted to try what many call “one of the most efficient forms of exercise?” Have you ever wanted to learn the proper technique of rowing? Now is your chance! Join us for a free Introduction to Indoor Rowing using our indoor rowing machines (ergs). Unlike most activities, rowing incorporates your legs, core and upper body. We’ll focus step-by-step on proper form so that you can learn and appreciate this complete full-body, low-impact, lifelong exercise.

Tri-Yoga • Ages 14+ NEW!

Calling all beginner, advanced and “thinking about it” triathletes! Yoga for triathletes will help address imbalances throughout the body. This functional class builds core strength, strengthens your mental game, increases upper-body muscle strength, helps with breathing efficiently and improves hip, quad and hamstring flexibility. Yoga is an effective way to effectively cross-train and stay active on recovery days. All levels welcome. 

Drumming for Wellness • Ages 16+ FREE!
Wednesday, Aug. 105:30-7 p.m.
Freedom Park
In this workshop, we’ll use the drum and the voice as a modality to practice mindfulness. Students will learn basic drumming and meditation techniques, and participate in drum circles and sound immersions to experience the use of drums and sound in ritual, ceremony and recreation. No musical experience necessary! All instruments provided.

Group Fitness Classes • Ages 14+

Sensory Friendly Movie Night • All Ages & Abilities

Enjoy a feature film with family and friends in a safe and accommodating environment. The lights will be turned down low and special sensory seating areas provided. Popcorn and snacks included. Want to spend a fun day with your child fishing from the shores of Little Creek Reservoir Park? Let the park staff teach you and your child the fundamentals of this favorite pastime. All equipment provided.

Explore Powhatan Creek by Kayak • Ages 16+ FREE!
Monday, Aug. 15, 5:30-7:30 p.m.  
James City County Marina
Participants will learn about the natural and historic resources of Powhatan Creek and the James River with a specific focus on the native flora of Powhatan Creek. Registration required by visiting Registration opens at least two weeks before the date of the program. Paddle craft, paddles and personal flotation devices provided. 

Adult Learn to Row • Ages 18+ 
Saturdays & Sundays, Aug.13-28, 8:45-10:30 a.m.  
Chickahominy Riverfront Park 
Rowers can learn the basics of the boat, rowing technique and navigation leading to a capability of rowing in an adult practice by the program's end. This is great preparation if rowers are interested in continuing with the sport. Rowers should be able to swim. For more information contact: or visit for updates. Program cost is $200, with 50% applicable to rowing membership with the Williamsburg Boat Club.  

Full Moon Hike • All Ages FREE!
Friday, Aug. 12, 8:03 p.m. (sunset)
Freedom Park
Ever wondered what animals are lurking once the sun goes down? Come explore the PARK AFTER DARK during the full moon nights of summer! In this self-guided hike, the Park will be open late, past sunset, on select nights. After sunset, visitors may only use Multiuse Trail 3; the full moon hikes are a walking loop that start and end here. Users must depart the park by the closing time 9 p.m. and must stay on Trail 3 after sunset.

Campfire Social • All Ages FREE!
Saturday, Aug. 13, 7-8 p.m. 
Chickahominy Riverfront Park 
Come celebrate summer with a good old-fashioned campfire gathering at Chickahominy Riverfront Park! Enjoy s’mores, activities, storytelling and more around the campfire overlooking Gordon Creek. 

Forest Explorer Fridays: Bats • All Ages/Families FREE!
Friday, Aug. 19, 6:30-8 p.m. 
Freedom Park 
Come learn all there is to know about Bats! Bring the kids for bat-themed games and crafts, a formal bat presentation and then we’ll explore the meadow and Free Black Settlement to seek out the resident bat population. Learn about bat monitoring and their foraging habits and benefits to humans. Weather Permitting.

Holiday Closures
The James City County Recreation Center and Abram Frink Jr. Community Center will be closed Monday, Sept. 5 for Labor Day. All County parks are open year-round.
The Park Stores/Guest Services Offices at Chickahominy Riverfront Park, Little Creek Reservoir Park, James City County Marina and Freedom Park are open.
