Explore Powhatan Creek by Kayak • Ages 16+ FREE!

Participants will learn about the natural and historic resources of Powhatan Creek and the James River with a specific focus on the native flora of Powhatan Creek. Full Moon Hike • All Ages FREE!

Ever wondered what animals are lurking once the sun goes down? Come explore the PARK AFTER DARK during the full moon nights of summer! In this self-guided hike, the Park will be open late, past sunset, on select nights. After sunset, visitors may only use Multiuse Trail 3; the full moon hikes are a walking loop that start and end here. Users must depart the park by the closing time 9:30 p.m. and must stay on Trail 3 after sunset.
Forest Explorers Friday: Butterflies • All Ages FREE!

Join us as we explore the Williamsburg Botanical Garden for the different species of butterfly that call the park home. Programs are held on the third Friday of every month and feature our guides who present a nature program on a different topic and then leads children and their parents on a trip through the forest to learn about plants, wildlife, insects and anything else we may encounter! Credit/Debit Card Convenience Fee:
A convenience fee of 2.95% is applied to all credit and debit card transactions made to any James City County department. Parks & Recreation patrons will notice the 2.95% fee as a separate charge on their credit or debit card statement. The exact amount of the fee will not appear at the time of transaction, but can be calculated at 2.95% of the total cost. Look for the exact amount on your bank/credit card statement. Customers can continue to pay by check or in cash to avoid the fee. If a refund is requested, the fee is not recovered. For more information on the fee, please call the Treasurer’s Office at 757-253-6705.

All Outdoor Events are weather permitting. Before heading out, please call the Activities Hotline at 757-259-3232 any changes in schedules.
Holiday Closures
The James City County Recreation Center and Abram Frink Jr. Community Center will be closed July 4 in observation of Independence Day and Sept. 5 for Labor Day. All County parks are open year-round.
The Park Stores/Guest Services Offices at Chickahominy Riverfront Park, Little Creek Reservoir Park, James City County Marina and Freedom Park are open during both holidays.
