During the 35th Annual County-Wide Spring Cleanup, 27 neighborhood groups and organizations removed 428 tires and 138,000 pounds of litter and debris from County roadways and dump sites. This achievement could not have been met without the help of 394 volunteers. A special thank you to the individuals who offered assistance to their elderly neighbors, to the groups who made it a family event to clean up our community and lead by example, to the 94 year old citizen who has encouraged the cleanup in his community for the past 35 years, and all others who contributed to this effort. The Commissioners are discussing changes to make future cleanups even more effective.
During the month of April, the Clean County Commission also participated in the James Riverfest, VIMS Marine Debris Summit and Earth Day events at James River Elementary and Berkley Middle School. These activities are continuing to aid in the environmental education and beautification of our community.
Several of the neighborhoods that were awarded the Good Neighbor Environment Grants in the fall of 2015 completed the installment of their spring plantings including Berkeley’s Green, Greensprings, Kingspoint, Longhill Station and New Town.
The Clean County Commission currently does not have a representative from the Roberts District. Interested applicants should contact the Environmental Coordinator at 757-259-5375 or email cleancounty@jamescitycountyva.gov .
Meetings are held on the first Thursday of every month.
