Celebrate the summer solstice by joining James City County Parks & Recreation for the Longest Day of Play! June 21 is the longest day of the year. We’ll rise and shine at 5:47 a.m. as we cater to the sun and offer free recreational activities all day including outdoor adventures, fitness classes, visits to our recreation centers and outdoor pools and so much more! 
 
Come explore a new park or tryout out a new activity! Below is a sampling of our offerings – these listings are free; however, some require registration by June 17. First-come, first-served! Please note, programs are subject to cancellation due to inclement weather or lack of minimum registration levels. 

Drop-In Programs · NO Registration Needed!

6 a.m.-9 p.m. ▪ Age restrictions apply on equipment use.
James City County Recreation Center. Your free visit includes use of the indoor pool which features wheelchair accessibility, an indoor walking track, gym with basketball courts, racquetball courts, whirlpool and saunas; and fitness area with free weights and circuits of Cybex and Nautilus equipment and cardiovascular equipment with broadcast vision theater. The game area offers air hockey, a pool table, table tennis and foosball. The outdoor park features the Skate Park; MyPlace, an inclusive playground; and walking trails. 

8 a.m.
Bird Walk ▪ Ages 16+ 
Bring binoculars, walking shoes and sharp eyes and ears. Meet in the trail parking lot. Greensprings Interpretive Trail

8 a.m.-3 p.m.
Disc Golf ▪ Ages 13+; 12 & younger with parent/guardian
Come try out disc golf along the Chickahominy! Bring your own discs or borrow one of ours. Chickahominy Riverfront Park

10 a.m.
Family Yoga ▪ All Ages
Age-appropriate yoga poses to encourage time together, all while building confidence and self-esteem. Bring a mat or beach towel. Veterans Park (Kidsburg)

11 a.m.-3 p.m. 
Axe Throwing ▪ Ages 10+ 
Check in at Go Ape to test your aim. Freedom Park

11 a.m.-6 p.m. ▪ All Ages
Outdoor Pools
Your free visit features use of the outdoor pool at Upper County Park and the outdoor pool and splashpad at Chickahominy Riverfront Park. For more information on the outdoor pools, visit us online. Chickahominy Riverfront Park & Upper County Park

Noon-2 p.m.
Splash In at the James City County Recreation Center ▪ All Ages
Come play on the Wibit Inflatable and enjoy free access to the indoor pool! James City County Recreation Center

4-6 p.m.
Trackless Train Ride ▪ Ages 13+; ages 12 & younger with parent/guardian
All aboard for an afternoon trackless train ride! Veterans Park (Kidsburg)

4-9 p.m. ▪ Age restrictions apply on equipment use.
Abram Frink Jr. Community Center. Your free visit includes use of the fitness area equipped with a circuit of Cybex and cardio equipment, dumbbells, a weight bench and a pull up dip station; gym; and multipurpose room with game tables and large screen TV. The outdoor park includes basketball courts, tennis courts, soccer and softball fields. 

5-7 p.m.
Intro to Pickleball ▪ All Ages 
Come learn the basics of pickleball from members of Pickleburg. No equipment required. Veterans Park (Kidsburg)

6 p.m.
Family Zumba Glow Party ▪ All Ages
Get the whole family moving and making memories under the glow of blacklights! Join the party with a perfect blend of dance, fitness and fun. James City County Recreation Center

Sunrise Yoga on the Beach ▪ Ages 16+ ; 15 & younger with parent/guardian
Begin your day aligning your body and breathing in the fresh air with your toes in the sand. Bring a yoga mat or a beach towel. Jamestown Beach Event Park 

7-9 a.m.
Sunrise Paddle ▪ Ages
Bring your own kayak or borrow one of ours for this self-guided paddle tour of Powhatan Creek near Jamestown Island. James City County Marina 

8-10 a.m. 
Group Water Fitness Classes  ▪ Ages 14+
Join us at Chickahominy Riverfront Park (outdoor pool) and the James City County Recreation Center (indoor pool) for a scheduled water fitness class! Please check out the water fitness schedule for specific classes and descriptions. Chickahominy Riverfront Park & James City County Recreation Center

9 a.m.
Group Bounce Fitness Class ▪ Ages 14+ 
This Bounce class is a low-impact and high-intensity workout designed to tone your body, increase circulation, balance and endurance. Preregistration required through JCCRC Signup.com. James City County Recreation Center 

10 a.m.
Group BAM! Drum Fitness Class  ▪ Ages 14+
Combine fun-energy movement with the power of drumming, stress reduction and mental balance in this unique full-body workout. Preregistration required through JCCRC Signup.com. James City County Recreation Center 

12:30 p.m.
Walk This Way ▪ Ages 16+
Being active is the secret to staying healthy, and walking is a great way to get moving! Let our walking coach guide you through a beautiful trail at Freedom Park. Freedom Park 

1 p.m.
Golden Hearts ▪ Ages 65+
Move your whole body in a safe and effective exercise program designed for the healthy-active to sedentary senior. James City County Recreation Center 

1 p.m. 
A “Brave” Afternoon ▪ Ages 3-8
A Scottish-themed storytelling of "Brave" including snacks and bow & arrow themed crafts. Upper County Park 

2 p.m. 
A “Brave” Afternoon ▪ Ages 9-12
A Scottish-theme storytelling of “Brave” including an archery demo and target art project. Upper County Park

4:30 p.m.
Drumming for Wellness ▪ Ages 14+
Class held outdoors under the trees! We'll use the drum and the voice as a modality to practice mindfulness. Freedom Park 

7 p.m.
Restorative Candlelight Yoga ▪ Ages 14+ 
Focus on poses that promote relaxation and restoration through the use of yoga props. Learn tools to help relieve the effects of chronic stress and decompress after your day. James City County Recreation Center
