We've Got Summer Camps!

James City County Parks & Recreation has it all - outdoor adventures, sports and a variety of special interest camps for youth. Full day to half day options available. Camps are listed by week, then age and then camp date. Registration information appears at the end of the camp listing. Register now!  
    
Week of August 1

Hip Hop Dance/Cheer Camp • Ages 6-12
Monday-Friday, Aug. 1-5, 9 a.m.-noon, $125
Lois Hornsby Middle School
Focus on fun cheers and modern hip hop movements with a vivacious urban feel. The hip hop portion of the camp will focus on musicality, finding the count and rhythm of the music and dance skills within a team. Different styles of hip-hop dance will be combined with fun choreography. The cheer portion of the class will teach various dance and cheer combinations, basic stunts and fun choreography. Along with these skills, participants will receive daily take home activities that build teamwork, confidence and leadership skills. On the last day, we’ll perform to showcase all that our participants have learned! Instructor: Athlete’s Global. 
   
Week of August 8
  
AG Basketball & Speed Training Camp • Ages 6-12
Monday-Friday, Aug. 8-12, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., $190
Lois Hornsby Middle School
We’ll focus on shooting mechanics, one on one defense, scoring, ball handling, passing, mental preparation, fitness, conditioning, speed, agility training and more. A key objective in our academy is to create an intense and fun atmosphere that will enable campers to increase their basketball skills, maximize performance and achieve peak condition. An exciting part of our academy is the implementation of nutritional education, personal development, mentoring activities in decision making, leadership, communication skills, self-image and team building with others. Instructor: Athletes Global. 
  
Youth Running Camp • Ages 8-13
Monday-Thursday, Aug. 8-11, 9-11 a.m., $70
Greensprings Interpretive Trail
Your child will enjoy this summer running camp led by Greater Williamsburg Distance Running Club on the Greensprings Interpretive Trail. They’ll learn the basics of healthy running, build endurance, speed, agility and motivation. The purpose of this camp is to help youth learn that running can be fun and allow for a healthy and happy lifestyle. Bring water, a beach towel and wear appropriate running attire. Athletic shoes required.  
  
Outdoor Experience with JRA • Ages 10-14
Monday-Friday, Aug. 8-12, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., $200
James River Association Education Center
Experience a week of outdoor adventure and education. Campers will canoe Powhatan Creek, learn about and perform seine netting and water quality testing, and participate in fun environmental games about the James River and its watershed. Instructor: James River Association. 
  
Week of August 15 

Spa Essentials for Kidz • Ages 9-12
Monday-Thursday, Aug. 15-18, 2-5 p.m., $165
James City County Recreation Center
Using only natural and wholesome ingredients, campers can make their own products (body butters, soy candles, bath bombs, bubble bath, shampoo and more). Learn about the properties of all ingredients used. All products labeled and packaged for home. Bring lunch and/or heavy snack daily. Instructor: Chef Wendy, Kidz-R-Cookin’. 

Youth Summer Rowing Camps • Middle School Youth, incoming 6-8th grades
Monday-Saturday, Aug. 15-20, Times TBA, $200
Chickahominy Riverfront Park
Rowers will learn the basics of the boats, rowing technique and navigation leading to a Camp Regatta on Saturday. This is great preparation if rowers are interested in continuing the sport in the fall season. Rowers should be able to swim. For more information contact: comm.wbc@gmail.com or visit https://www.williamsburgboatclub.org for updates. Program cost is $200, with 50% applicable towards rowing membership with the Williamsburg Boat Club.

Week of August 22

Inclement Weather/Cancellations
All Outdoor Events are weather permitting. Before heading out, please call the Activities Hotline at 757-259-3232 any changes in schedules.  

Holiday Closures: 
The James City County Recreation Center and the Abram Frink Jr. Community Center will be closed Monday, Sept. 5 in observance of Labor Day.  
All County parks, including the Stores/Offices within the parks, are open Sept. 5.
