James City County Parks & Recreation has it all - outdoor adventures, arts and pottery, sports, cooking, science and language, camps for youth with disabilities, just to name a few! Full day to half day options all summer long. Camps are listed by week, then age and then camp date.  Registration information appears at the end of the camp listing. Look for updates to this listing on Aug. 1!  

Week of July 5

Little Tykes Summer Camp • Ages 3-5
Monday-Thursday, July 6-Aug. 12, 1:30-4:30 p.m. $65/week
James City County Recreation Center
A super fun pre-K camp with creative arts and crafts, outdoor play, music and interactive stories! Come join the weekly adventures! Children must be toilet trained.

Virginia Legacy Recreational Soccer Camp • Ages 5-12
Half Day: Monday-Friday, July 5-9, 9 a.m.-noon, $115
Full Day: Monday-Friday, July 5-9, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., $190
Lois S. Hornsby Middle School
Revolving around soccer-related games, activities, trainings and competitions, this camp includes instruction on the fundamentals of soccer and is designed to meet the needs of beginner, developmental, recreational and advanced soccer players. All participants receive a Legacy Camp shirt and free soccer ball! Instructor: Virginia Legacy.

Days of Discovery Summer Camp • Ages 5-22 with disabilities (must have completed kindergarten)
Monday-Thursday, July 6-Aug. 5, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
July 6-8,$55 July 5 holiday); $75/week
Matoaka Elementary School
Experience FUN, arts and crafts, swimming, outdoor play, gym games and community outings! This exciting summer camp will enhance mobility, socialization and leisure skills. Parents are responsible for their child’s daily pick-up. A typical camper: has a mild to moderate disability; can independently or with verbal cues, feed, bathe and toilet; is able to function successfully within a 1:3 staff to camper ratio; is able to adjust to changes in routine/environment with relative ease; has the ability to effectively communicate needs either verbally or with a communication device. Registration forms are available at the Recreation Centers, Freedom Park and Satellite Services. FOCUS Field Hockey Camp • Ages 8-14
Tuesday-Friday, July 6-9, 9 a.m.-noon, $115
Warhill Sports Complex
Learn the foundations and fundamentals with FOCUS Field Hockey! Whether you’re new to the game or a seasoned player, this camp is for you! FOCUS espouses a modern, games-based curriculum delivered by highly-invested former college coaches with extensive backgrounds. Required equipment includes mouth guard and shin guards. All other equipment is encouraged but not required.

Want to learn skills from former college football players? Join us for this hands-on/no pads camp to learn tackling, blocking, passing and other skills to be successful. Former WJCC athletes and local high school coaches will get you ready for tryouts! Lunch provided.

Master on Canvas Camp • Ages 5-10
Monday-Friday, July 19-23, 9 a.m.-noon, $120

Come get inspired by art created by Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Henry Matisse and Pablo Picasso. We’ll recreate famous works of art like Van Gogh’s Sunflowers, Monet’s Water Lilies, Matisse’s The Flight of Icarus and many others, all on real canvas boards. Make room on your walls! Your child is going to be very proud of these masterpieces! Instructor: Kidcreate Studio.

AG Basketball & Speed Training Camp • Ages 6-13
Monday-Friday, July 19-23, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., $190

We’ll focus on shooting mechanics, one on one defense, scoring, ball handling, passing, mental preparation, fitness, conditioning, speed, agility training and more. A key objective in our academy is to create an intense and fun atmosphere that will enable campers to increase their basketball skills, maximize performance and achieve peak condition. An exciting part of our academy is the implementation of nutritional education, leadership, personal development, mentoring activities in decision-making, leadership, communication skills, self-image and team building with others. Instructor: Athletes Global.  

Mighty Girls Yoga! Camp • Ages 7-10
Monday-Thursday, July 26-29, 9 a.m.-noon, $90
Freedom Park
The focus of the Mighty Girls Yoga! Camp is to help increase self-confidence while learning to grow in peace as you build strength and resilience from the inside out. We’ll learn the physical, mental and social benefits of yoga and mindfulness practices within a safe, cooperative, accepting environment, while exploring the beautiful outdoors. Discover your strengths through journaling, meditation, yoga games and art activities. We’ll collaborate on how to become agents of peace within the community and leaders in our lives. COPs Camp • Ages 10-13
Monday-Friday, July 19-23, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., $125
Law Enforcement Center
Learn the importance of being active in your community by collecting donations for local charities and participating in exciting activities and field trips with James City County Police officers. All activities, games and trips will promote teamwork, respect and helping others. “Veteran” campers are encouraged to invite a “rookie” friend to register. Instructor: JCC Police Department.

Girls of American (Girl Doll) Manners and History • Ages 8-11
Monday-Friday, July 26-30, 9 a.m.-noon, $170

Come and learn about today’s “American Girl” manners as well as the historical characters from the American Girl® series. Each day we’ll highlight a different era as we also learn about manners then and now! Fee includes your own NEW American Girl® doll, which you select at the time of registration. Instructor: Paula Guerra.  

State Park Passport Camp • Ages 9-12
Monday-Friday, July 26-30, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., $175
James City County Recreation Center
Join us for a tour of some of the area’s surrounding State Parks. Each day we’ll highlight a unique activity, excursion or program specific to one of Virginia or North Carolina’s local state parks. Camp fee includes transportation to and from all the parks and all park admissions, amenities and excursion fees. Campers are encouraged to bring a bagged lunch, extra snacks and a water bottle. Activities may include paddling, learning about oyster farming, geocaching, birdwatching and more!  

DIY Art Adventures • Ages 11-16
Monday-Friday, July 26-30, 1-4 p.m., $100
James City County Recreation Center
Make art masterpieces out of common household items, recyclables, and other unique objects! We’ll use our imagination for “do-it-yourself” art all week long. Dress for mess. No previous experience needed. Camp fee includes a special “in-house” field trip. 

Week of August 2

Spanish Camp • Ages 6-11
Monday-Friday, Aug. 2-6, 9 a.m.-noon, $110

Let’s explore Central America! Learn about Mexico, Honduras, Costa Rica, Belize and Panama! We’ll discover the geography, people and customs as well as make various crafts from each country! Instructor: Paula Guerra.

Multi-Sport Camp • Ages 7-10
Monday-Friday, Aug.2-6, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., $125
Lois S. Hornsby Middle School
Join us for a sampler pack of sports! Over 12 different team and individual sport options for campers to try out including basketball, baseball, soccer floor hockey and more! Camp includes a lunch pizza party on Friday.

Camp Chocolate • Ages 7-13
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday, Aug. 2-6* (*no camp 8/4), 1-4 p.m., $115

Learn about chocolate making and the history of chocolate along with games and lots of fun each day. We’ll dip fresh fruits, make chocolate clusters and create many other treats! Please note any food allergies at registration. Bring an apron and a small snack to class each day. Fee includes all supplies. Instructor: The Williamsburg Chocolatier, Inc.

Youth Intro to Weights & Functional Training Camp • Ages 12-15
Monday-Thursday, Aug.2-5, 9:30-11:30 a.m., $60

Is your child ready to hit the weight room? Hold on! Let us teach them proper and safe techniques, etiquette of lifting and age appropriate lifts and functional training. Your child will learn to safely strength train, improve their balance and body control as well as proper form. We’ll perform functional lifts with body weight, focus on core strength and muscle toning for a total body workout. Class instructed by a certified personal trainer.

Week of August 9

Time Travelers • Ages 8-12
Monday-Friday, Aug.9-13, 9 a.m.-noon, $110

Have you ever wanted to be an Archaeologist like Indiana Jones? Come and learn about the five ancient civilizations from around the world! We’ll learn about Egypt, Mali, Inca, Aztec and Greek civilizations. We’ll map our adventures and discover their unique cultures. Instructor: Paula Guerra.

OP Adventures • Ages 9-12
Monday-Friday, Aug.9-13, 9 a.m.-noon, $105

In this half-day adventure camp, campers venture from home base on a different local excursion each day. Each day brings a new activity including kayaking or paddling, geocaching, biking and hiking, all while learning about the historical and natural history that surrounds the area. Weather permitting for all daily activities.

Living in the Past • Ages 10-12
Monday-Thursday, Aug. 9-12, 8:30 a.m.-noon, $75
Freedom Park
The settlers at Hot Water, now the home of Freedom Park, did not have video games, computers or any of the high tech gadgets of today! So how did they get by? Camp participants will get a feel for 18th and 19th century life in Virginia – making their own food and supplies, and learning about the rich history of Freedom Park. Please bring sunscreen and water.

Cooking, music and arts & crafts from around the globe will all come together in this very special hands-on cooking camp. Each day will be a different culinary adventure for campers. Explore culture, food and tradition. Recipes and certificates are included! Please note any food allergies at registration. Instructor: Kidz-R-Cookin’.

Week of August 23

Pinch, Slab, Coil Clay Camp • Ages 4-6
Monday-Friday, Aug. 23-26, 9 a.m.-noon, $100
James City County Recreation Center
 It's time for your young artist to roll up their sleeves, make a mess and play with some clay! Campers will use a variety of tools and techniques to make animals, castles, bowls and much more. We’ll work with a variety of different types of clay throughout the camp, including both Model Magic® and air-dry clay. Campers will use their fingers to pinch, assemble a slab, and create coils as they learn the basics of working with clay. Instructor: Kidcreate Studio.

The “How-Tos” of Drawing Camp • Ages 7-12
Monday-Friday, Aug. 23-27, 1-4 p.m., $120

Does your young artist love to draw? This introductory drawing camp teaches campers the basic techniques and principles of drawing. We’ll encourage creativity and imagination while experimenting with a variety of drawing materials and techniques. Campers will even receive their own sketchbook that they’ll get to keep and draw in throughout the camp! Instructor: Kidcreate Studio.  

Cupcake Wars • Ages 7-13
Monday-Thursday, Aug. 23-26, 9 a.m.-noon, $125

Prepare for war...cupcake style! Each day we’ll create, bake and decorate gorgeous cupcakes with buttercream icing to enjoy and share. Learn baking techniques as well as how to work with decorating bags and different tips to create our masterpieces. You’ll be in teams daily and we’ll have friendly competition each day – get ready for the challenge! Please note any food allergies at registration. Bring an apron and a small snack each day. Dessert Camp • Ages 7-13
