In honor of “Litter Prevention Month”, the Commission worked with VDOT to install five new “LITTERING IS ILLEGAL” signs at County entryways. The associated “MAX FINE $2500” is included on each sign to help promote litter prevention and enforcement.
Twenty-six County neighborhoods and community groups registered for the 35th Annual County-Wide Spring Cleanup. At any point throughout the year, groups are encouraged to contact us if they are interested in organizing a litter cleanup.
The Commission continues to meet with WJCC Public Schools teachers and staff to explore new and creative ways to support the efforts of their Green Team. Tours of the Jolly Pond Convenience Center were provided for a large homeschool group and for local Girl Scouts. Other groups interested in learning more about James City County recycling are encouraged to schedule a tour with us. For more information visit us online.
Finally, in celebration of Earth Day we will be promoting our litter prevention, recycling and energy efficiency programs at the James Riverfest at the James City County Marina on Saturday April 30 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. We look forward to seeing many of our fellow citizens there! www.jamesriverfest.org.
