Parks & Recreation March Events

As the impacts of COVID-19 continue to be felt, we ask for your patience, flexibility and support. We depend on you, our patrons, to follow safety and social distancing guidelines as regularly released by the Governor of Virginia, the Virginia Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Aquatics

American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Course • Ages 15+
Friday, March 12, 4-6 p.m.; Saturday, March 13, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Monday-Thursday, March 15-March 18, 4-9 p.m.
$205
James City County Recreation Center and Kingswood Pool (111 Spring Road)
• Includes First Aid and CPR certification.
• Must attend and pass a swim test (300-yard continuous swim: 100 yards of front crawl, 100 yards of breaststroke and 100 yards of choice of front crawl or breaststroke). Retrieve a 10-pound brick from a depth of 7-8 feet and return 20 yards, keeping both hands on the brick at all times; face must remain out of the water. Tread water for two minutes keeping arms out of the water.
• Must attend every class to earn certification.
• Failure to complete competency test does not guarantee a full refund.
• Cell phone use is not permitted in class and can be grounds for dismissal.
• Must be age 15 or older by the last day of class.
• Class meets at the JCCRC on the first day.
• $205 per session includes swim test, book and materials. Swim test held on first day of class.

Before & After School Programs/REC Connect
Registration for Summer Camp 2021 and Before & After School 2021-2022 is underway. The Spring Break registration deadline is March 12, noon. Spring Break programs will be held April 5-9, Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-6 p.m. $25/day. Enjoy exciting trips and hands-on activities. Bring lunch daily. All applicants must submit a completed registration form each year along with an annual non-refundable registration fee for each child registering. Registrations are taken on a first come, first-served basis according to space availability. Please allow up to seven business days from received date for processing. Once your registration has been processed, you'll be notified of enrollment status. For program descriptions, please visit REC Connect and Teens On Point webpage.

Drumming for Wellness • Ages 12+ NEW!

Group Fitness Classes • Ages 14+
Our instructors are certified by nationally recognized organizations such as AFAA, ACE, Spinning, Zumba, Barre, SilverSneakers®, Yoga Alliance and SCOTT Pilates. Purchase a Premier Pass, Group Fitness Monthly Pass or a 10-Tab Pass for access to classes. These allow you to take any land or aqua fitness class as long as space is available (first-come, first-served). Classes are 50 minutes unless otherwise noted. Our varied schedule includes core and flexibility classes like Pilates, Yoga and PiYo. For a full body workout, we offer Low Impact, Body Sculpt, Cardio Intervals and Indoor Rowing. For more of a physical challenge, try Cardio Kickboxing, Tabata, Kettlebell, Barre, TRX, Bootcamp, Circuit Training or Indoor Cycling. You’ll find something you love! Techniques of Meditation • Ages 16+ FREE!

Whether you’re a seasoned practitioner or brand new, all are welcome to this open community meditation practice. We’ll explore different styles of meditation techniques as well as tools that aid the meditative process. You’ll be guided in and out of each session. Meditation can improve your physical, emotional and mental health and well-being.

Lounge Walk-About Program • Ages 55+ 
Indoor walking opportunity for active adults 55 and better. Come inside and walk off the cold using the indoor walking track at the James City County Recreation Center. Pedometers available for you to keep track of how many loops you make. Eleven times around the track equals one mile. Monday, Wednesday and Fridays, 9-11:30 a.m. Lounge membership required, cost is $65/year for James City County and Williamsburg residents and $75/year for nonresidents. Come explore the forest ecosystems within James City County, identifying the plants and animals that call these special places home. How do trees that fall in the woods contribute to the life of the forest?
