Police Respond to Shooting

James City County Police Department patrol vehicle

At 3:18 a.m. on Feb 21, James City County Police responded to a report of gunshots at Vacation Village at Williamsburg located at 4870 Longhill Road. Upon arrival, it was learned that a 17-year-old JCC male had been shot in the neck while he was inside a unit in the 100 block of Indian Fields Way. He was flown to VCU Medical Center by helicopter and treated for his injuries. He is expected to recover.

The preliminary investigation revealed that there was a party being held at the unit and that some uninvited people arrived. An argument ensued between different groups of individuals resulting in numerous gunshots being fired. The suspects fled the scene in an unknown vehicle prior to the police arrival. Police believe that the victim may not have been the intended target of the shooting. In addition to the shots fired into the unit where the victim was located, multiple vacant units and parked vehicles were hit with bullets. Police recovered multiple handguns and numerous shell casings at the scene.

At 3:51 a.m., Newport News Police received a call of a shooting victim in the area of Oyster Point Road and Nettles Drive. Upon arrival, officers checked the area and located the victim in the 200 block of Pointer Circle. This location is an apartment complex off of Nettles Drive near Oyster Point Road. The victim was identified as Rozahn Tre-zor Luckett, 21-years-old of Newport News. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by medics at 4:01 a.m.
