The Virginia Recreation & Park Society (VRPS) Board of Directors elected Arlana Fauntleroy president for 2021. Fauntleroy began her one-year term Jan. 1. The mission of VRPS is to unite all professionals, students, and interested lay persons engaged in the field of recreation, parks, and other leisure services in the Commonwealth of Virginia. With over 25 years of leadership and advocacy experience, Fauntleroy’s strongest attributes are commitment, accountability and working seamlessly with diverse groups. In partnership with state-wide members and leaders, she’ll lead VRPS and the parks and recreation profession forward.
Fauntleroy is Recreation Services Administrator for Parks & Recreation and a graduate of Old Dominion University, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Recreation and Tourism Studies and Master of Public Administration. She leads a division comprised of 20 full-time staff and 50 plus part-time staff and volunteers. She is responsible for guiding the comprehensive programming, budget development, strategic planning, marketing and evaluation of 10 program areas - youth, teens, seniors, neighborhood outreach, inclusion, therapeutic recreation, special events, special interests, sports and outdoors.
