James City County Fire Department responded to the 3500 block of Brick Bat Road at 8:42 p.m., along with mutual aid from York County Fire Department, for report of a structure fire. Units arrived at 8:47 p.m. to find a large, unoccupied barn fully involved. Crews began defensive operations, extinguishing the fire from the outside while preventing the spread of fire to nearby equipment. Due to the remote location of the barn, water was shuttled from hydrants in nearby areas. The fire was declared under control at 9:46 p.m. The farm was not operational and no residences were affected. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Media Contact: Chief Ryan Ashe 757-592-1437; ryan.ashe@jamescitycountyva.gov
