The James City County Police Department recently held their third annual Shop with a Cop program at Target in Monticello Marketplace. Seventeen children were paired up with officers and given $150 to shop for gifts for themselves and their families. After they completed their shopping, the children and officers were treated to a free lunch by Chick-fil-A in Monticello Marketplace.
The Shop with a Cop Program, held each December, is designed to help brighten the holidays for children in need. This program partners children with police officers who then shop for toys and clothing at Target in Monticello Marketplace. Once they are done shopping, the children all have lunch at Chick-fil-A with the police officers. The program works to spread some holiday cheer while establishing relationships between children and the police. Funding for this program is obtained through fundraising events and donations which are accepted year round.
For more information on this program, please contact Senior Officer Todd Dill at 757-603-6025.
Shop with a Cop is completely funded by donations and proceeds from department’s annual Shred-A-Thon.
