[ARCHIVED] Release #3 August 5, 9:15 a.m.-Governor's Land Tornado Confirmed, Olde Towne Road Remains Closed

National Weather Service Evaluating Damage

Governor’s Land
The National Weather Service visited Governor’s Land on August 4 and confirmed that EF 1 tornado hit that area.

Road Conditions
Olde Towne Road, from Scotts Pond to just south of the “S” curve, remains closed due to a downed power pole and lines. The road will remain closed through August 5 for VDOT and Dominion Energy to complete the needed repairs. All other roads, including Cranston’s Mill Pond Road, have reopened.

Power Outages
According to Dominion Energy, there are approximately 146 customers without power in James City County. Dominion Energy Virginia crews are conducting damage assessments and restoring outages. They are preparing for a multi-day restoration effort. As of now, they cannot offer restoration estimates. Dominion says that crews will work around the clock until all customers are restored and will devote all possible resources to this effort.
