[ARCHIVED] Release #2 – 1:50 p.m. August 4 Summary of Impacts from Isaias

Large Tree Governors Land

Initial Damage Assessment
One mobile home and one townhome were damaged from falling trees.

Governor’s Land had a suspected tornado that caused multiple trees to fall. The National Weather Service plans to be in the area today to determine if it was an actual tornado.

A James City Service Authority waste water lift station in Governor’s Land also sustained damage from the suspected tornado. The station remained operational and water quality was not affected.

Power Outages
According to Dominion Energy, there are approximately 6,209 customers without power in James City County.

Dominion Energy Virginia crews are conducting damage assessments and restoring outages. They are preparing for a multi-day restoration effort. As of now, they cannot offer restoration estimates. Dominion says that crews will work around the clock until all customers are restored and will devote all possible resources to this effort.

Remember to stay away from downed power lines and to assume all such lines are energized.

To report a power outage, call Dominion Energy at 866-366-4357 or visit www.DominionEnergy.com/outage.

Food Safety During and After a Power Outage
Keep the refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible to maintain the cold temperature.

 - The refrigerator will keep food cold for about 4 hours if it is unopened.
 - A full freezer will keep the temperature for approximately 48 hours (24 hours if it is half full) if the door remains closed.

Visit https://www.fsis.usda.gov/…/a-consumers-guide-to-f…/ct_index for more information.

Road Conditions
Most primary and secondary roads throughout the County are passable, with moderate pooling along shoulders and some pockets of standing water on roadways.

Cranston’s Mill Pond Road, Olde Towne Road and Gardner Court are flooded and closed. VDOT has barricades at Cranston’s Mill Pond Road and in the area of Stewarts Road. Please remember that roads with barricades are closed to ensure drivers’ safety. Do not drive around the barricades.

Downed Trees
There are reports of multiple downed trees in the area. To report downed trees on roads or other road hazards, call the Virginia Department of Transportation at 800-367-7623.
