County officials continue to monitor Isaias and are making needed preparations. James City County is under a Tropical Storm Warning and a Flash Flood Watch. Visit the National Weather Service’s website for current forecasts.
County Offices
Based on the weather forecast, most County offices, the Recreation Center, Convenience Centers and other facilities will open at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4. Visit the website for any changes due to COVID-19.
Williamsburg Regional Library will open at 2 p.m.
Williamsburg – James City County Courts will be closed.
The County’s two outdoor pools at Chickahominy Riverfront Park and Upper County Park will be closed on August 4. Regular operating procedures will be in effect for the indoor pool at the James City County Recreation Center which specify that pools close during and at the approach of thunder and lightning.
Curbside Recycling
Curbside recycling will not be collected on Tuesday, August 4. Please follow the modified blue service weeks schedule listed below.
- Blue Tuesday recycling-collections to occur on Wednesday, August 5
- Blue Wednesday recycling-collections to occur on Thursday, August 6
- Blue Thursday recycling-collections to occur on Friday, August 7
- Blue Friday recycling-collections to occur on Saturday, August 8
What You Can Do Now
1. Sign up for www.jccalert.org to receive important information from County officials during an emergency.
2. Take measures to protect your property now:
- Clear debris from storm drains and clean your gutters.
- Put your trash can and recycling bin in the garage or secure your complex’s dumpster by fastening door latches.
- Remove or secure anything from your yard that can become a projectile from damaging winds: swing sets, grills, lawn or patio furniture, umbrellas, bird feeders, wind chimes, planters, trampolines and hanging baskets.
- Prune dead tree branches.
- Move pesticides, cleaning chemicals and motor fuels as high off the ground as possible in the event flash flooding occurs.

Local State of Emergency
Out of an abundance of caution, Scott Stevens, James City County Administrator, declared a local State of Emergency today at 1 p.m. The declaration allows the County to mobilize resources to support essential functions during and after an emergency.
