Rental Assistance Program

urgent need rental assistance

On July 16, 2020, the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development awarded a contract to the James City County Housing Office to provide subsistence payments under the Urgent Need Community Development Block Grant Program. Funding from this program will be used to help stabilize low- and moderate-income households financially impacted by job loss, furlough, or reduced hours as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and who may face eviction as a direct result of unpaid rent. Under the Urgent Need Subsistence Payment Program, the Housing Office will provide up to three months of rent payment and up to six months of financial and housing counseling assistance for up to 54 eligible low- and moderate-income renter households throughout the County. Assistance from this program will be available through June 2021 or until all funding has been expended.

Contact the Housing Office to learn more about the requirements of this program and find out if you qualify.
