[ARCHIVED] Let’s Talk Turf

Lets Talk Turf

A quick question for James City County homeowners:

What do you know about your lawn?

  • I have warm season grass.
  • I have cool season grass.
  • I only have weeds.
  • There’s more than one type of grass?

Do you want to learn how to produce healthy turf while reducing the use of fertilizers, pesticides and insecticides? It’s time for Turf Love.

For $30, Master Gardener volunteers, also known as Lawn Rangers, will visit your home, do a soil test to get your soil’s make up and provide you with a plan on how to improve your lawn in an environmentally friendly way.

To register for the program and request a visit from a Lawn Ranger, download and complete the program application and pre-visit survey on the website. Please mail these completed documents, along with a check for the $30 program fee, to the District office:

Colonial Soil and Water Conservation District
Attn: Turf Love Program
205 Bulifants Blvd, Suite C
Williamsburg VA 23188

Once your application and fee have been received, program manager Robyn Goad will contact you to schedule the Lawn Ranger visit. If you have any questions, please contact Robyn at 757-645-4895 or robyn.goad@colonialswcd.net.

Turf Love is a cooperation between the County’s Stormwater & Resource Protection Division, the Colonial Soil and Water Conservation District (CSWCD) and Virginia Cooperative Extension’s Master Gardeners.
