County Parks Update
Before heading out to County parks, please check the complete list of park amenity openings and closings, listed below. Help us keep the park open by adhering to all restrictions. Practice Social Distancing - groups of more than 10 are prohibited and visitors must be at least 6-feet apart.
Reminders:
● Dogs must be leashed and under the complete and immediate control of their owner at all times.
● In all parks, all playgrounds, public basketball courts, volleyball courts, sports courts, athletic fields and skate park are closed. This also includes these courts at local schools.
● All restrooms (except where noted below) and water fountains in County Parks are closed.
Park by Park
James City County has a variety of opportunities available in our parks to help you enjoy the season while maintaining your mental wellness and connecting to nature during these challenging times. However, please remember COVID-19 social distancing guidelines are still in effect. The County’s tennis courts and pickleball courts are open, available for singles play only. The tennis courts are located at Jamestown High School, Warhill High School and Lafayette High School. At Veterans Park, only the eight pickle ball courts are open, 7 a.m. to sunset daily. Note: All playgrounds, public basketball courts, volleyball courts, sports courts, athletic fields and skate park are closed. This also includes these courts at local schools.
Brickyard Landing, 990 Brickyard Road (off Forge Road)
Open: public boat ramp
Chickahominy Riverfront Park, 1350 John Tyler Highway
Open: Campground is open for all length of camp stays. Campground bathhouses 1 & 2 are open. Campers can make reservations and complete other transactions by calling 757-258-5020 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily. The Guest Services service window is open daily open 11a.m. – 4 p.m. daily for the sale of ice, firewood and other transactions. Walking trail, boat ramp, fishing pier and lots of open space.
Closed: Fishing pier for safety maintenance. Chickahominy Riverfront Park Guest Services/Store is closed to public traffic (service window open); no paddlecraft rentals until further notice.
Diascund Reservoir Park, 9551 Diascund Reservoir Road
Open: boating access & fishing
Freedom Park, 5537 Centerville Road
Open: mountain biking, hiking, walking, nature trail & open space
Closed: Interpretive Center, playground
Greensprings Interpretive Trail, 3751 John Tyler Highway
Open: ADA accessible trail, hiking, running & wildlife viewing (no bikes)
Ironbound Park, 150 Carriage Road
Open: ADA accessible walking trail
Closed: playground, basketball court
James City County Marina, 2054 Jamestown Road
Open: Marina Store service window open daily 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. for fuel sales, payments and other Marina transactions; wildlife viewing
Closed: Marina Store is closed to public traffic (service window open) and there are no bike and paddle craft rentals until further notice.
James City County Recreation Center Park, 5301 Longhill Road
Open: mulituse trails for hiking, biking & jogging
Closed: playground
Jamestown Beach Event Park, 2205 Jamestown Road
Open/Permitted: The beachfront remains closed, except for the following activities as permitted by the Governor’s Executive Order #55.
● exercising on the beach
● swimming for exercise only (offshore only, beyond the rocks)
● fishing in fishing area only
● sitting/standing in picnic areas only
● launching paddle craft
Not Permitted
● sunbathing, sitting and standing on the beach
● wading, playing and floating in the water
● rafts & other water floatation devices
● swimming along the shoreline (swimming between shore & rocks)
●picnicking on the beach
●grilling (personal/park grills)

Little Creek Reservoir Park, 180 Lakeview Drive
Open: mulituse trails for hiking, biking and jogging, boat launch & fishing
Powhatan Creek Park and Blueway, 1831 Jamestown Road
Open: fishing, small watercraft launch & wildlife viewing
Powhatan Creek Trail, 3131 Ironbound Road
Open: mulituse trails for walking, running, cycling & wildlife viewing
Upper County Park, 180 Leisure Road/Toano
Open: mountain biking and mulituse trails for hiking, biking and jogging & open space
Veterans Park (Kidsburg), 3793 Ironbound Road
Open: ADA accessible multiuse trails for hiking, biking & jogging
Closed: Kidsburg, basketball courts, sand volleyball courts
Warhill Sports Complex, 4900 Stadium Road
Open: mulituse trails for hiking, biking and jogging, shoreline fishing & open space
Closed: Sandford B. Wanner Stadium
Recreation Centers/Facilities:
The James City County Recreation Center, the Abram Frink Jr. Community Center and Legacy Hall remain closed. Passes to both Centers are frozen, and the lost time will be added to your membership when the Centers reopen.
