COVID-19 Updates and Reminders 

Memorial Day Closings
Most County services will be closed on Monday, May 25 for Memorial Day. Public safety services and County parks will remain open, however, not all park amenities may be available. As a reminder, in accordance with Governor Northam’s Executive Order Fifty-Five, most beaches in Virginia remain closed to all activities except fishing and exercise. At Jamestown Beach Event Park, visitors can exercise on the beach, fish in the fishing area and launch paddle craft in the designated launch area. However, sunbathing, sitting and standing on the beachfront are NOT permitted. Wading, playing and floating in the water are also not permitted.

Convenience Centers and the Garbage Transfer Station will be closed, Monday, May 25.
Curbside recycling will not be collected on Monday, May 25. Monday’s recycling will be picked up on Tuesday, Tuesday’s on Wednesday and so on. Recycling will return to the regular schedule on Monday, June 1.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
When you get an antibody blood test, your blood is checked for antibodies, which show if you had a previous infection with the virus that causes COVID-19. Learn more: https://bit.ly/3gfQIMA

Historical Commission 
The Historical Commission will meet Thursday, May 28, 2020 at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held electronically pursuant to the Continuity of Government Ordinance adopted by the Board of Supervisors on April 14, 2020. Details: https://jamescitycountyva.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=3970

Parks & Recreation 
James City County plans* to resume Parks & Recreation summer programming on June 29! For specific program and camp offerings and descriptions, dates, cost and all registration information, please visit our website starting June 1 (https://jamescitycountyva.gov/635/Parks-Recreation). Programs will follow social distancing and other safety procedures as outlined by CDC and the Governor of Virginia.

*Camp/class offerings are limited and subject to change based on CDC and Governor’s timelines and recommendations.

Voter Registration and Elections 
The next election for James City County voters is Tuesday, June 23 and it is a primary. The deadline to register for the June 23 polling day or to update your address or other registration information is Tuesday, May 26.

Personal Property and Real Estate Taxes
James City County personal property and real estate tax bills have been mailed and are due Friday, June 5. If you did not receive your tax bill, please call the Treasurer’s Office at 757-253-6705. Taxes are still due even if you did not receive the bill.

The Board of Supervisors voted on May 5 to not charge a late payment penalty for personal property tax payments made between June 6, 2020 and midnight, Aug. 5, 2020. Interest will be charged at a rate of rate of ten percent (10%) per annum (about .83% monthly) for all payments made after June 5, 2020.
