The Shred-A-Thon originally scheduled for May 2 has been canceled.

Unfortunately, fraudulent testing and treatment scams are continuing. Please visit the FBI’s website to familiarize yourself with these scams. Unsure? Contact JCCPD at 757-566-0112 and speak to an officer before acting on an offer you receive.

General Services
Our Convenience Centers and Transfer Station (also known as a landfill) have been very busy over the last several weeks with residents spending time at home cleaning out attics, closets and yards. For locations and hours of operation, visit

There are two ways to pay to dispose of household trash and yard debris.

  • Debit and Credit Cards – All three Convenience Centers accept debit and credit cards. The 2.95% convenience fee for all credit card transactions has been temporarily suspended until June 30, 2020.
  • Payment Coupons – Convenience Center coupon books may be purchased in person (by check or credit/debit card) at the Jolly Pond Solid Waste Office from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday - Saturday. Coupon books can also be purchased online or by calling the Treasurer’s Office at 757-253-6705 to purchase via phone and the coupon book(s) will be mailed. Please allow 3-7 business days for delivery.

We also offer a bulk pickup service for $75. Our truck will allow for approximately 10 pickup truck loads. A standard pickup has dimensions of: 8’ long x 5.33’ wide x 1.5’ high and when loaded level full will hold 2.5 cubic yards of material.

Multiple households can share one pickup as long as all materials are located in one spot. For more information and to schedule a pickup, visit

Household Chemical Collection
VPPSA (Virginia Peninsulas Public Service Authority) will host two Household Chemical Collection events in May.

All collections are open to the residents of Williamsburg, James City County, York County, Hampton and Poquoson. Proof of residency may be required. Event staff will wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and remove items from vehicles.  
 - May 9, 8 a.m.-noon Operations Drive in York County (Yorktown between Service Drive and County Drive)
 - May 16, 8 a.m.-noon Coliseum Drive in Hampton (Hampton Coliseum Parking Lot)

VPPSA holds 16 household chemical collection events per year and accepts a variety of paints, fuels, solvents, pesticides, automotive products and other chemicals. Visit for more information.

Business Updates
Reminder: County businesses are invited to participate in a new initiative from the Greater Williamsburg Business Council. Take a photo and submit it to participate. Deadline is Thursday, April 30 at 5 p.m.

Businesses should participate in resiliency and business assistance webinars with William & Mary, SCORE and the Virginia Small Business Development Center. All of these webinars are free.

We have noticed a few things since our doors closed...we are not "Us" without "U!" Check out for this tribute to our patrons! James City County has a variety of opportunities available in our parks to maintain your mental wellness and connect to nature during these challenging times. Visit to learn what’s open and closed. Please note: James City County’s tennis courts and pickleball courts are open; however, please note the courts are open for singles play only. The tennis courts are located at Jamestown High School, Warhill High School and Lafayette High School. At Veterans Park, only the eight pickle ball courts are open, 7 a.m. to sunset daily. To ensure we can continue to offer these and more physical fitness and recreational opportunities, please follow social distancing guidelines - maintain a social distance of at least 6 feet and groups of more than 10 will be asked to separate.
