[ARCHIVED] Assault Suspect Taken into Custody on Route 199

James City County Police Department patrol vehicle

On Feb. 6 at approximately 3:45 p.m., officers were called to an assault in the 200 block of Reflection Drive. The 71-year-old male victim reported that his son had assaulted him and had fled the scene in his vehicle.

Officers soon located the vehicle and followed the suspect from Croaker Road, to I-64 East and finally to Route 199. As the suspect vehicle was approaching Route 199 near the Longhill Road exit, spike strips were deployed in an attempt to stop the vehicle. Once the vehicle stopped, the suspect exited the vehicle and began to flee on foot, but stopped and confronted officers. He refused commands while reaching towards his waistband. Officers ultimately used less-lethal means to take him into custody. He was not injured. The 71-year-old male victim was also not injured. One officer on scene received a minor injury.

This incident remains an active investigation, and no further information is available at this time.
