Update: The deceased has been identified as the homeowner, Thomas M. Collier Jr., 72 years of age. The James City County Fire Marshal’s Office has completed the investigation and determined that the fire was caused by smoking materials.
On Jan. 22 at 7:09 a.m., units from the James City County Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire in the 100 block of Worplesdon in the Ford’s Colony subdivision. The fire resulted in one fatality and one person transported to the hospital with breathing issues.
The fire was brought under control at 7:36 a.m. Crews from the City of Williamsburg Fire Department assisted.
