[ARCHIVED] 20 Things to Explore in 2020

2020

With each new year, there are new things to look forward to and the things happening in James City County in 2020 are no exception. We divided this year’s list of things to explore into 10 things we are excited about and 10 things to explore.

10 Things We are Excited About

  1. Busch Gardens Williamsburg will be launching to new heights and speeds with their new roller coaster, Pantheon. Pantheon features a total of four launches and will reach a top speed of 73 mph, making it the fastest multi-launch coaster in the world.
  2. The return of the Cap2Cap in James City County! On May 9, 2020, the Dominion Energy Cap2Cap ride will have two separate starting locations including Chickahominy Riverfront Park. There are four bike ride options available: a family fun ride (eight miles), a quarter-century (27 miles), a half-century (57 miles) and a century (100 miles).
  3. The LPGA returns to James City County from May 18-24, 2020 with the Pure Silk Championship. During this prestigious week-long event, women golfers from around the world will compete for a $1.3 million purse in a 72-hole stroke play tournament.
  4. Sweethaven Lavender of Williamsburg will host not one, but two lavender festivals. There will be one geared towards adults on Saturday, May 30 (Adult Relaxation & Education) and on Saturday, June 6 (Family Fun in the Fields). Mark your calendars now.
  5. The return of the REV3 Triathlon to Chickahominy Riverfront Park. We are excited about this great race returning after its absence in 2019.
  6. We are thrilled that the Williamsburg Winery is planting 8.5 acres of new vineyards including four different varietals. This will total over 9,000 plantings from the Winery’s viticulture team.
