Aquatics

Learn to Swim, Free Swim Evaluations
There are individual registration periods before each swim lesson session. Registration for February/March classes is open from Jan. 28-Feb.7. Registration is accepted at the James City County Recreation Center and online. Having trouble deciding which swim level is appropriate for your child? Our certified Water Safety Instructor staff will be available 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4 and Wednesday, Feb. 5 to provide free swim evaluations. Classes/evaluations held at the James City County Recreation Center. Call 757-259-4185 for more information. Please Note: Work is continuing with our contractors to determine and correct the grounding issue at the Recreation Center indoor pool. We will update you again once a construction timeline is confirmed.

Arts & Special Interest

Kid’s Valentine Cupcake Decorating ∙ Ages 6-13
Friday, Jan. 31, 5-7 p.m., $20

Get introduced to basic cake decorating skills using buttercream icing. Decorate cupcakes in Valentine style–we’ll even use edible glitter and sprinkles. Practice can make the difference in how you progress in pottery. Uninstructed, this open studio time allows students to continue to work on pieces begun in class. Must be enrolled in current adult pottery class to register. No access to the kiln. Participant must sign-in in the craft room.

Before/After School Programs

REC Connect
Need before, after school or holiday break child care? The REC Connect program is open to youth ages 5-14, enrolled in grades K-8. One registration packet may be used for both the Before & After School 2019-2020 and Summer Camp 2020 programs. Registrations accepted on a first-come, first-served basis according to postmark date and space availability. Registration forms and program information is available online and at the James City County Recreation Centers, Abram Frink Jr. Community Center, Freedom Park Interpretive Center and Satellite Services Office in Toano. Come in for a free health screening that includes a simple finger stick for a non-fasting cholesterol reading, blood pressure and body mass index. Day Support Program ∙ Ages 18+ with disabilities

The “Arc of Abilities” supports adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who do not have a Medicaid waiver. The Day Support Program provides continuing education, life skills and vocational training. In addition, clients are engaged in fitness, recreational and community service opportunities with peers, instructors and the community. Monthly tuition based on need. Williamsburg Botanical Garden Program: Winter Pruning Clinic ∙ Ages 18+
Saturday, Jan. 18, 10-11:30 a.m.
Freedom Park Interpretive Center
An experienced team of local Master Gardeners will show you how to care for dormant trees and shrubs during the winter. Learn about the right tools for pruning, how to use and maintain them, along with the best time for pruning other plants. Seating is limited! Register to guarantee a spot. This nationwide program is a fun way to lace up the basketball shoes and test your skills against other local players! The competition consists of a one minute timed drill and shots from multiple, pre-determined locations around the court. The top three participants in each age group are eligible to move on to the regional tournament and from there to an all-expense paid trip to the skills challenge championships! Aging date for each participant is their age on Aug. 31, 2020, not their current age. Preregistration is highly recommended as spaces are limited.

Fitness Open House Lean in 2020 ∙ All ages Free!

Now is the time! It’s a New Year for a new routine! Aquatic and land instructors will be available to discuss their classes, formats and typical modifications with you in a personal setting. Participate in mini classes throughout the morning. Sentara nurses will be available to administer health screenings. Gait Analysis appointments will be held and fitness orientations conducted.
