[ARCHIVED] Billsburg Brewery Wins Three Golden Tap Awards

Billsburg Brewery Golden Tap Awards

On Dec. 10, Billsburg Brewery (Billsburg) won three Golden Tap Awards from Veer Magazine. Billsburg received a silver medal in the “International Lager” category for Juan’s Night Stand Cerveza and two bronze medals for Pale Bitter European Beer (Cribbage in the Square) and Standard American Beer (Classic Lager). These medals are the first Billsburg awards for their beer. In 2018, Billsburg won a bronze medal for their outside space during the Golden Tap Awards.

“Billsburg is proud of our brewers, Austin Shawinsky and Anthony Merendino, for making some of the best lagers and pilsners around – these awards wouldn’t be possible without their dedication to the craft of beer,” said Dave Baum, owner of Billsburg.

For the Golden Tap Awards, a combination of online votes and a committee of tasters weighed in to select the winners. More than 30 local breweries in the 757 were nominated for this year’s awards.

Alewerks Brewing Co., which has a primary location in York County, but in 2017 opened a second taproom in James City County at the Williamsburg Premium Outlets, received multiple awards for their beers. The beers that received awards included Tavern Brown Ale, Oktoberfest, Pancake House Stout, Weekend Lager, Pumpkin Ale, Jubilee XIII, Café Royale and Illemonati, which was a collaboration with Virginia Beer Co.

Billsburg opened in October 2017 in James City County and was the first craft brewery to open in the County. Billsburg is a destination brewery and venue surrounded in history and located next to Jamestown Settlement, Jamestown Island, Jamestown Beach Event Park, just off the Colonial Parkway, the Capital Trail and the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry.
