Twenty-two James City County neighborhoods recently submitted applications for the Neighborhood Drainage Maintenance and Clean Water Heritage Grant Programs. The total value of the submitted improvements exceeded $650,000 to repair drainage systems and stormwater management facilities (BMPs).
The Stormwater Program Advisory Committee reviewed the applications and ranked them based on specific evaluation criteria. The Committee approved funding for $238,000 in drainage repairs and $20,000 in BMP repairs or upgrades.
County funding will provide the neighborhoods a portion of the cost to repair failed drainage pipes and swales and keep BMPs in good operating condition. Adequately maintained stormwater systems protect private property from uncontrolled storm runoff and reduce pollution in County waterways, thereby benefiting all residents and visitors to the County.
The Board of Supervisors approved the grant program in April 2015.
