Learn to Swim, Free Swim Evaluations
There are individual registration periods before each swim lesson session. Registration for the July/August mini-session is open July 9-19. Registration is accepted at the James City County Recreation Center and online. Having trouble deciding which swim level is appropriate for your child? Our certified water safety instructor will be available 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16, and Wednesday, July 17, to provide free swim evaluations. Join us for this seven-week program that focuses on enhancing positive relationships and communication within your family. Parents and youth (one child must be between 10-14 years old; older siblings may also participate) meet once a week, with sessions consisting of skill building, social bonding activities, games, projects and working together. This evidence-based program has been shown to help youth effectively resist peer pressure and develop a positive future orientation; parents learn and practice limit-setting and nurturing skills. We’ll take you through a four-week workshop to promote hip and spinal health by undoing the daily stressors on your spine and hips brought on by repetitive movement, tension, inactivity, injury or surgery. The “Arc of Abilities” began in 2016 to support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who do not have a Medicaid waiver. The Day Support Program provides continuing education, life skills and vocational training. Register for this annual self-guided bicycle tour! Choose from four ride options - Family, 15 miles, 30 miles or the Half Century Ride (50 miles)! All routes include visits to County parks where rest stops will allow you to cool down and power up. Fee includes refreshments, pool admittance to Chickahominy Riverfront Park Pool, maps, support vehicles to help out tired riders and, most importantly, lunch! All routes begin at the Virginia Capital Trail trailhead located near Jamestown Settlement. Then join us down at the James City County Marina near Billsburg Brewery for lunch, music and a game of cornhole after the ride! Preregistration forms available at local bike shops, the James City County Recreation Center, Abram Frink Jr. Community Center, Freedom Park Interpretive Center, Satellite Services in Toano or online at jamescitycountyva.gov/recreation.
